၂၀၁၀ နှင့် ၂၀၁၇ခုနှစ်တွေ တုန်းကလည်း ကြက်ငှက်တုပ်ကွေး(H1N1) outbreak ဖြစ်ခဲ့သေးတဲ့အတွက် ပါးစပ်နှာခေါင်းစည်း (Mask) တွေကို လူကြားထဲသွားတဲ့အခါ တပ်ဆင်ခဲ့ကြရပါသေးတယ်။ အဲ့တုန်းကတော့ ကူးစက်မှုနှုန်းရော သေဆုံးနှုန်းရောပါ ယခု Covid-19 လောက်မများခဲ့တဲ့အတွက် Mask တွေ ဝယ်ယူမှုနှင့် စွန့်ပစ်မှုနှုန်းလည်း အခုလောက်မများခဲ့ပါဘူး။ ယခု Covid-19 Pandemic ကြီးဖြစ်လာတဲ့အခါမှာ ရောဂါကူးစက်ပြန့်ပွားမှုနှုန်းကို ထိန်းချုပ်နိူင်ရန်အတွက် ပါးစပ်နှာခေါင်းစည်း (Mask) တွေကို မဖြစ်မနေတပ်ဆင်လာကြရပါတယ်။ အသုံးပြုလာမှုများလာတာနှင့်အမျှ စွန့်ပစ်မှုနှုန်းတွေကလည်း တရှိန်ထိုးမြင့်တက်လာလျက်ရှိပါတယ်။ တစ်ခါသုံး Mask တွေကို စည်းကမ်းမဲ့စွန့်ပစ်မှုတွေကလည်း တစ်နေ့ထက်တစ်နေ့ တိုးပွားလျက်ရှိပါတယ်။ အခုဆိုရင် လမ်းဘေးပလက်ဖောင်းများ၊ အမှိုက်ပုံးများနှင့် အိမ်နောက်ဖေးလမ်းကြားတွေမှာပါ အသုံးပြုပြီးသား Mask တွေကို လွယ်လွယ်ကူကူစွန့်ပစ်ထားတာတွေကို မြင်တွေ့နေကြရပါတယ်။ အဲ့ဒီ တစ်ခါသုံး mask တွေကို အလွယ်တကူစွန့်ပစ်ကြတာက အများပြည်သူကျန်းမာရေးအတွက်အန္တရာယ်လည်းရှိသလို သဘာဝပတ်ဝန်းကျင်အတွက်လည်း မကောင်းတဲ့အကျိူးဆက်တွေအများကြီးရှိပါတယ်။
တစ်ခါသုံး Mask တွေကို polypropylene လို့ခေါ်တဲ့ အလွယ်တကူမဆွေးမြည့်နိုင်တဲ့ ပလပ်စတစ်အမျိုးအစားတစ်မျိုးနှင့် ပြုလုပ်ကြပါတယ်။ ပင်လယ်ထဲကိုရောက်ရှိသွားတဲ့ အသုံးပြုပြီးသား mask တစ်ခုဆွေးမြေ့ရန်အတွက် နှစ်ပေါင်း ၄၅၀ ခန့်ကြာမြင့်ပါတယ်။ နှစ်စဉ်နှစ်တိုင်း ပင်လယ်ထဲသို့ ပလပ်စတစ်အမှိုက် တန်ပေါင်း ၈ သန်းကျော်ဝင်ရောက်တယ်လို့ ပညာရှင်တွေက ခန့်မှန်းကြပါတယ်။
အဲဒီ့ ပလတ်စတစ်တွေက တဖြည်းဖြည်း ပြိုကွဲသွားတာမျိုးမဟုတ်ဘဲ micro-plastic အသွင်အဖြစ်ပြောင်းလဲသွားပြီး လူသားတွေရဲ့ စားသောက်မှုကွင်းဆက်တွေထိပါ ပျက်စီးထိခိုက်စေပါတယ်။ တစ်ခါသုံး Mask များနှင့် PPE တွေကို ပြန်လည်ထုတ်လုပ်အသုံးမပြုနိုင်တဲ့အတွက် အများပြည်သူကျန်းမာရေးမထိခိုက်စေရန်သာမက သဘာဝပတ်ဝန်းကျင်ကိုပါ ထိခိုက်မှုအနည်းဆုံးဖြစ်စေရန် သေချာစနစ်တကျစွန့်ပစ်သင့်ပါတယ်။
ဆေးဝါးကျွမ်းကျင်ရေးနှင့် ကျန်းမာရေးဆိုင်ရာ သုတေသနအဖွဲ့အစည်းတွေအနေနဲ့ကလည်း Mask တွေကို ဖြိုခွဲပိုးသတ်ခြင်းနှင့် ပိုးသတ်ဖြိုခွဲရာမှ အသစ်သောပစ္စည်းများပြန်လည်ထုတ်လုပ်နိုင်ခြင်းများအား အားပေး ဆောင်ရွက်လာနိုင်ဖို့ ပြည်သူတိုင်းမျှော်လင့်နေတာကိုမြင်တွေ့နေရပါတယ်။

In 2010 and 2017, there were also outbreaks of bird flu (H1N1), so we had to wear masks in public.At that time, the rate of infection and death was not as high as the current Covid-19, and the purchase and disposal of masks was not as high as it is now.With the advent of the Covid-19 Pandemic, we have to wear masks in order to control the spread of the disease.As the useage and the purchase increases, so does the rate of disorganized and uncontrolled disposal of single used masks is on the rise.We can also see that the used masks everywhere and people easily discarded them on roadside platforms, bins and back alleys.The easy disposal of these disposable masks poses a risk to public health as well as a negative impact on the environment.
Most of these masks contain or are made of polypropylene, which does not break down quickly.Disposable plastic masks that end up at sea could take up to 450 years to fully decompose.It is estimated that every year, over eight million tonnes of plastic enter our oceans. This plastic does not disappear but rather slowly breaks down into micro-plastic, which enters food chains, with devastating effect.Disposable masks and PPEs cannot be recycled and should be disposed of properly to minimize harm to public health as well as the environment. We all hope to have the medical specialists, and healthcare researchers could probably implement for the used-mask disposal or recycling this soon.
