မာကျူရီတွေက သွားဖာဆေးများ၊ ပင်လယ်စာအစိမ်းတွေမှ တစ်ဆင့်ခန္ဓာကိုယ်ထဲကို ဝင်ရောက်တတ်တာကို ကြားဖူးကြသလို အလှကုန်ပစ္စည်းတွေမှာလည်း ပါဝင်တတ်တယ်ဆိုတာရော သတိပြုမိကြားလား။

Did you notice that mercury can also be found in cosmetics?
You may have heard that mercury can lurk in things like sushi and dental fillings, but have you ever noticed that it can also be found in cosmetics too? Of course, there are also some cosmetics that contain mercury. Among the mercury types, not only organic mercury but also inorganic mercury can be found in cosmetics. Organic mercury compounds are used as cosmetic preservatives in eye makeup cleansing products and mascara. It is used to help elongate the shelf life of a product. Inorganic mercury is used in skin lightening soaps and creams. Companies use mercury in products because mercury salts inhibit the formation of melanin, resulting in lighter skin tone, giving it a skin lightening effect with the promises of reducing pigmentation, dark spots, and freckles. It can also be found in some antiseptic soaps!
So how can we know if the cosmetics contain mercury or not?
Check the ingredients. If the words “mercurous chloride,” “calomel,” “mercuric,” “mercurio,” or “mercury” are listed on the label, mercury’s in it—and you should stop using the product immediately. Do not use cosmetics that have no brand name or cosmetics that do not contain ingredient lists. And also don't use cosmetics that are written in a language you do not understand. Cosmetics are used to beautify, but if you make the wrong choice, the damage is irreplaceable. Therefore, if you want to buy cosmetics, you should read the ingredients carefully before buying.
